Celebrate Washougal's "green" revitalization with fun, music

You’re invited to help celebrate the revitalization of downtown Washougal Sept. 29. The celebration, which lasts from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., includes a kids’ parade, music from Five Guys Named Moe, family entertainment, food and fireworks.

In addition to making major improvements to its downtown streets, sidewalks, utilities and community spaces, the City of Washougal re-embraced its environmental identity. Washougal has long been referred to as the “gateway to the Gorge.” Now more than its surroundings are green.

Washougal Town Square, a central shopping and gathering place, was recently developed to meet standards set by the U.S. Green Building Council. And Washougal City Council will officially adopt its sustainable practices during the Sept. 29 celebration.

The revitalization celebration is proudly sponsored by Columbia Credit Union, which like Washougal advocates sustainable community development. As Washougal wraps up its revitalization project, Columbia Credit Union is preparing to break ground on its Washougal branch – the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified financial institution in the area.

This event begins what is sure to be an ongoing, eco-friendly relationship between the city and Columbia. Learn how you too can go green in our online Sustainable Learning Center.
