Connie Jones [left], co-chair of the Loaves & Fishes Luncheon, was elated about Columbia's $9,000 donation. She said she is convinced we played a significant role in getting others to make donations, helping the luncheon raise over $110,000.
Loaves & Fishes has enriched the lives of seniors with nutritious food, social contact and other resources since 1970. Its first hot meal and food delivery for the homebound was organized at a local church by three women who saw a need in the community that was not being met.
Since then, Loaves & Fishes has grown significantly and produces 5,000 hot meals each weekday. The meals are distributed to 35 senior centers throughout Multnomah, Washington and Clark Counties where they are served or sent out for delivery as Meals-On-Wheels.
Loaves & Fishes also offers weekend and holiday meals for qualified recipients and a senior exercise program at select senior centers. None of this is possible without help from hundreds of volunteers.
Community Ambassadors, representatives from each of Columbia's branches and departments, lead fundraising efforts among the credit union staff, raising $2,500 for the cause.
Columbia Credit Union is proud to support Loaves & Fishes in their mission to ensure that no senior will go hungry or experience social isolation. If you are interested in helping or would like more information, please visit www.loavesandfishesonline.org.
