May 2010 — The Vancouver Schools Foundation Books and Basics Annual Luncheon raised $100,000 to support the basic needs of students. Each spring, this luncheon showcases Foundation achievements and hosts loyal supporters. Columbia is pleased to be a sponsor of this event where 100 percent of proceeds directly benefit students.
More than 22,000 students attend Vancouver Public Schools each day and nearly half of them qualify for subsidized meals, a federal indicator of poverty. The Vancouver Schools Foundation exists to ensure that basic needs for Vancouver kids are met – from immunizations to hygiene items – so kids can come to school healthy, happy and ready to learn.
