Donation helps students find meaning |
Columbia once again joined with local Rotary Clubs
to provide dictionaries to Clark County third graders
in support of Rotary International's focus on literacy.
Nearly six thousand dictionaries complete with
bookplates and bookmarks were distributed.
Columbia officials and Rotary representatives gathered
at Helen Baller Elementary in Camas to present the
dictionaries in a special kick-off assembly. As the
project sponsor, Columbia underwrote the cost of the
dictionaries and donated nameplates and bookmarks.
Columbia staff also assisted Rotary volunteers with
dictionary preparation and distribution to schools.
"We're so happy that Columbia Credit Union
has stepped up to provide funding of the Rotary
Dictionary program for four years now," said
Sue Coates, Rotary Assistant Governor Clark
County Region. "Literacy is a primary goal for
Rotary Clubs worldwide, and we're excited
to be providing young students with their own
dictionaries to really facilitate the learning
process."
