At Columbia's new branches, more than the wall-color reflects Columbia's green values. They are the first local financial buildings to seek certification from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
“Columbia believes preserving our environment is the right thing to do,” said Columbia CEO Parker Cann. “Pursuing a third-party, LEED certification is an involved and precise process. LEED certification shows that we are not just saying we’re green, it documents how we’re making a difference with our facility.”
We did our homework
In March 2007, green building consulting firm, Paladino & Company helped credit union management and Board members evaluate the costs and benefits of building green. The group brainstormed strategies to maximize abundant local resources.
Long-term return
It's true that building green will cost more in the short-term. But, in the long term, costs will be less because the
building will be more efficient. Not to mention, members and staff will be happier and healthier.
Members support eco-friendly initiatives
Columbia believes that sustainability is crucial to the well-being of future generations and our branch communities. We’re gratified to know our members share this value. In a 2007 member survey, 62 percent of members responded in support of Columbia’s sustainable practices!
