We're unabashed tree huggers, supporting tree planting efforts through regular donations and by volunteering in local planting events.
It’s easy to see why: a single tree can absorb up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide each year, according to the Trust for Public Land. They also increase property value and the overall health and beauty of our local neighborhoods. In short, trees are “good for you”!
Our Employees Pitch In
When Columbia employees hear about a chance to help plant trees in their neighborhoods, they’re ready to roll up their sleeves. Recently, members and employees joined forces to plant trees in the Heights neighborhood. Even Columbia CEO Parker Cann volunteered to help plant a ceremonial tree during Vancouver’s 2008 Arbor Day celebration.
150 Trees for Heights Neighborhood
In honor of Vancouver’s 150th anniversary, Columbia partnered with the City of Vancouver to award 150 trees to the Heights neighborhood for demonstrating the spirit of community. The award, “Neighborhood of the 150th,” was given through Vancouver’s Sparkles Award program.
Helping Members Help Forests
Columbia offers easy ways for you to help plant trees too:
- We make a donation to Vancouver Urban Forestry when you join or open a new account and present a Columbia Credit Union coffee sleeve.
- We list local tree planting events on our event calendar.
- We love to reward members with green gifts. Past items have included seedlings and donations to the Arbor Day Foundation in members' names.
