Pot a plant
Place a potted peace lily or spider plant on your desk to help filter the air and boost oxygen levels. Besides being beautiful, studies have shown that these plants are very good at removing harmful pollutants, such as benzene and formaldehyde, from the air.
Recycle on location
Stick a recycling bin under your desk, right next to the garbage can. With the option to recycle at your fingertips, you’re more likely to think twice before tossing your paper coffee cups into the garbage.
Snack smart
Stock up on organic snacks in the health food section of your grocery store. Why organic? Foods that are grown without pesticides are easier on the environment. If you can, choose local products, which use less fuel getting to the grocery store shelf.
Reuse file folders
Next time you see a colleague cleaning out old paperwork, rescue some file folders from being thrown into the trash or recycling bin. All you need to make these as good as new is a fresh label.
Give your computer a lunch break
Set your computer to power-saving mode so that when you’re not working, neither is it. Your computer probably already has ENERGY STAR Power Management features, which can save $25 to $75 in energy costs each year – as long as you enable them.
