Online Banking Security

Online banking is extremely secure. You may have heard of phishing emails or unsecured merchant transactions that lead to identity fraud on the Internet. Online banking is different.

According to a recent report by Javelin Strategy and Research, "A thorough analysis of identity crimes and the latest transactional methods shows that consumers, billers and financial sites can reduce [identity theft] risk by a projected 10.4% when they prudently move their at-risk activities to the Internet."*

So, your risk of identity fraud actually goes down when you bank online. Online banking acts as a secure lock box. Here's how ...

  • Your data is scrambled as it travels from our computer to your computer. All online banking web pages at Columbia Credit Union use the highest standard of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption available to prevent thieves from accessing your banking data.

  • Your browser must be equipped with 128-bit encryption.

  • We guard our computers with a firewall.

  • We verify that only you can log in. If you enter your online banking password incorrectly three times while trying to log in, we immediately lock your online banking access until you contact us and your password is reset.

  • Enhanced Login Security identifies you as the true “owner” of your accounts by recognizing your password and your computer. If we don't recognize your computer – say you've logged in from a new computer or removed cookies from your existing web browser – you will be prompted to answer “challenge questions” to gain access.
