Columbia Credit Union, which currently has a robust online presence and 12 branches throughout Clark County, Washington, has selected a location for its first Oregon branch in the diverse and vibrant Buckman neighborhood of SE Portland. The branch is scheduled to open later this year and will provide new jobs for area residents. This will be Columbia Credit Union’s 13th branch and their first in Oregon.
The new Columbia Credit Union branch location, in the “Goat Blocks” of Belmont and SE 10th and 11th Avenues, will be part of a new development that offers convenient one-stop shopping at a mix of tenants that includes Market of Choice, Orchard Supply Hardware, Chipotle and other stores and restaurants. This new development is in an area also known as the “Goat Blocks” because of a quirky herd of urban goats that once grazed there. The goats and their pet hen are now comfortably pasturing in Portland’s Lents neighborhood.
“At Columbia Credit Union, our legacy of listening allows us to create solutions that work for our communities based on their preferences. We’ll be chatting with local residents and business owners to find out what makes our Buckman neighbors tick,” says Columbia Credit Union President and CEO Steve Kenny. “We want to provide value beyond the expected. Things like dog watering stations, bicycle tire pumps and other forms of out-of-the-box thinking are some of the ways we’re looking at providing benefits to the community. We’re also seeking input on what we should call this branch from those who live there.”
The new branch is expected to use sustainable materials and offer some of the latest technology including digital video displays, state-of-the-art digital self-serve ATMs for withdrawals, transfers, inquiries and envelope-free deposits which reduce paper use. ATMs will also provide the future capacity to connect with remote experts. Consumers and businesses will have access to personal service for mortgages, investments and protective insurance services.
Columbia Credit Union is a trusted financial cooperative serving nearly one of every three families in Clark County, Washington. It is known for proactive community support and sustainable practices. Several of its branches were built to LEED Gold standards and it is recognized as a Green Business through the Clark County Green Business Program. Green-build practices will be used where possible in the construction and furnishings of this new branch.
“This natural progression and logical expansion of our market into Oregon opens the door for us to better serve the 5,600 plus families we’re already assisting across the Columbia River and opens our services to others who may have wanted to join Columbia Credit Union, but couldn’t,” says Kenny. “We’ve been making life better here in Clark County, Washington since 1952. Now, we have the opportunity to do the same for our neighbors in the Portland metro area.”
Columbia Credit Union membership is open to everyone who lives or works in Washington State or Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah or Washington Counties in Oregon. Family members and businesses located in these communities are also eligible for membership.
