How and When to Make a Balance Transfer
Making a balance transfer with your Visa credit card allows you bring other balances over to your Columbia CU Visa credit card account. That means you can consolidate higher rate balances under one card where the rate is lower, leaving you less to pay. With Columbia Credit Union’s great credit card rates, this can be beneficial if you have higher rate balances elsewhere.

When to Make a Balance Transfer
If you’re having trouble with your credit card debt, struggling to keep up with interest payments, then a balance transfer to a lower-rate card could help. Consolidating could mean lower monthly payments and the ability to pay off your balances quicker.
Something to look out for, however, are high fees. This is where Columbia Credit Union sets itself apart. Columbia CU charges no balance transfer fee. Considering most banks charge anywhere from a 3-5% fee to transfer a balance, a $10,000 transfer could save you up to $300 to $500 with Columbia Credit Union.
